Trolltjärn
Trolltjärn is the result of the powerful forces found in a glacial river that thundered through here at the end of the last ice age. The glacial river eroded away loose moraine material from zones of weakness in the rock and a canyon was formed. Trolltjärn is now a water-filled canyon and is about 12m deep. The high walls of rock fall vertically into the black water. On the northern wall, at the waterline, a Stone Age person has depicted a successful hunt. The river Lägstaån passes by and connects to the lake. The area is above the marine limit.
Stockholmsgatorna — Stockholm Streets — is the fitting and descriptive name of the impressive canyon about 15km farther up the same valley. It was formed in association with the emptying of a large lake that had been dammed by ice, situated north of the county border with Västerbotten. There is a clear connection between the two canyons. The site is a nature reserve, with plank footpaths that and a viewpoint. Next to the forest road there is a wind shelter, a picnic table and hearth. The path to the magical Uvtjärn is wheelchair-friendly. ![]()
