Kvarnforsen

Kvarnforsen is one of the few large unregulated rapids in the river Gideälven. It is a forest river, i.e. it rises east of the mountain range. This means that the spring floods occur early in the season when the river´s discharge can be relatively large. During summer periods with little rain, water flow is low. The river and the esker, Gideälvsåsen, follow each other down to Nyliden. The gravel esker is very large in places. At Kvarnforsen there is a great height different between the top of the esker and the river. The view of the rapids is magnificent, especially when the waters are high. There are picnic spots along river that have picnic tables, as well as a spring and an old small watermill.

The parking area next to the road can accommodate cars and buses. There is also a wind shelter, hearth and earth closet, as well as basic cabins available for hire. The place has great natural value and is worth a visit. It is a suitable meeting point and starting point for visiting Lockstafältet.
