Överhörnäs quarry

The quarry was opened in 1983.  Asphalt production is seasonal and takes place from the end of May until the end of October. The amount produced is 40,000 to 60,000 tonnes, and recently about 10% of production has been Skanska´s special products. About 150,000 to 200,000 tonnes of rock material are crushed every year.

The business supplies rolled bitumen to Skanska´s surfacing work in the Örnsköldsvik area, and sells about 5-10% externally, to a number of surfacing entrepreneurs who are active in the county. Crushed material is sold to Skanska, as well as to other entrepreneurs.

Asphalt productionThe plant is a Marini batch mixer from 1990, with a capacity of about 130 tonnes/hour. Maintenance of the plant takes place once a year, during the winter months. In 2000 a recycling drum was installed to be able to run asphalt granulate.

The heated storage capacity is 150 tonnes, the heated storage capacity for bitumen has 3 tanks of 150 tonnes and storage capacity for heating oil for drying and heating is 50m³ tank.

Crusher Rock is crushed using a caterpillar-driven precrusher, mobile crusher and a stationary secondary grinder for macadam fractions for the asphalt plant.

Rock material is taken from a neighbouring quarry; it is Härnö granite with good qualities for both asphalt and concrete. Finished products are then stored in stock piles on the area. The crusher plant uses covered conveyer belts and water sprinklers to reduce dust levels.

The plant can also process used, removed asphalt and concrete for recycling in new asphalt or in new road materials.
